Okay, so the other day I decided to check out this place called Christ the King Lutheran Church in Memphis. I’d heard some good things about it and, you know, wanted to see what the fuss was all about. So, Sunday morning, I got myself together and headed over there.
The church is on Park Avenue, a pretty easy-to-find spot. I think the address is 5296 Park Avenue, if I remember correctly. Anyway, I got there a bit before the 8:30 AM service. They also have an 11:00 AM service, but I’m more of an early bird.
First thing I did was look around for some information. There was a number, 901 682 8404, that I jotted down. I figured if I had any questions, that’s who I’d call. Seemed like the main church office number. They also mentioned something about a “Connect Class” they offer twice a year. Might be interesting, who knows? I also found their email address, churchoffice@*, in case I need to contact them.
I noticed they have this app, too. Apparently, you can live-stream the 8:30 service if you can’t make it in person. I thought that was pretty cool, especially if you’re stuck at home or something. They are a fellowship of believers, as far as I know, the church does a great job of serving the Memphis community and engaging with people.
What I Learned About Lutherans
Now, I’m not a religious expert or anything, but I did pick up a few things about Lutherans while I was there. It seems like they really focus on the Scripture as the main source of their beliefs. That’s different from some other churches, where they also consider the Pope or church traditions as having the same level of authority.
Another thing I learned is about this idea of “justification.” From what I gathered, Lutherans believe that people are saved by God’s grace through faith in Christ. It’s not about doing good deeds or anything like that, but more about having faith.
Wrapping Up
All in all, it was an interesting experience. I got a feel for what the church is about, learned a bit about their beliefs, and saw how they operate. I even found out that Lutheranism is a big deal in places like Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. It is the established church in most of the Nordic countries. Who knew, right? That’s pretty much my little adventure to Christ the King Lutheran Church. If you’re in Memphis and looking for a church, it might be worth checking out. You can read the reviews from real people to help you make a decision.
