Alright, so you wanna know about this Oklahoma Flame basketball, huh? Let me tell ya, it ain’t like them fancy NBA games you see on TV. This is real down-home, good ol’ fashioned basketball.
First off, I reckon it’s some kinda high school team or somethin’. I heard tell they play other schools around here. You know, them young’uns runnin’ around, dribblin’ and shootin’. Bless their hearts, they try so hard. Reminds me of my grandpappy chasing chickens back in the day, all that huffin’ and puffin’.
Now, they got this website, I think. My nephew showed me on his phone. Said somethin’ ’bout a schedule. Said they play games in the winter, mostly. Cold enough to freeze your ears off, but them kids, they keep on playin’. He showed me some pictures too. Kids in shorts and jerseys, lookin’ all serious. Makes you chuckle, seein’ ’em all worked up over a ball.
They’re callin’ it “varsity” basketball. Don’t ask me what that means. Sounds fancy, though. Probably means they’re the best players in the school, I guess. They had some kinda sign-up thing, too. Registration, they called it. Guess you gotta sign up if you wanna play. Makes sense, I reckon. Can’t just have any ol’ body runnin’ onto the court, now can ya?
They also had somethin’ about a banquet. In April, I think it was. Probably where they give out awards and eat a bunch of food. Them kids deserve a good meal after all that runnin’ around. I always say, a good meal and a good night’s sleep will fix just about anything. And them kids need both, after all that basketball.
My nephew also mumbled something about them being a “Christian” team. Now I don’t know too much about that part, but I reckon it means they’re good kids. At least, I hope they are. Ain’t nothin’ worse than a bunch of young’uns with no manners. My mama always said, “Mind your manners and treat folks right.” That’s what matters, whether you’re playin’ basketball or just sittin’ on the porch.
- They got a schedule.
- They had a sign-up thing.
- They had a banquet.
They play in Oklahoma, of course. That’s where we are, ain’t it? And it’s about basketball. That much is clear. They seem real organized, too. Got all them schedules and sign-up sheets. Reminds me of my church socials. Gotta have everything planned out, or it’ll be a mess. And nobody wants a mess, especially not when you’re dealin’ with a bunch of teenagers.
This “Oklahoma City Thunder”, that’s the real basketball team ‘round here. Them fellas are professionals. Big tall fellas, runnin’ and jumpin’ like nobody’s business. Heard tell they even had a team here from New Orleans for a while, after that big storm. Hurricane somethin’-or-other. Poor folks, losin’ their homes like that. But these young’uns on the Flame team, they ain’t professional yet. They’re just learnin’. And that’s okay. Everyone starts somewhere, right?
So, that’s about all I know ’bout this Oklahoma Flame basketball. It’s just a bunch of kids playin’ ball, tryin’ their best. Nothin’ fancy, just good clean fun. And that’s what matters, I reckon. In this world, we need more good clean fun. Too much fussin’ and fightin’ goin’ on, if you ask me. Just let them kids play ball and have a good time. That’s all there is to it.
They seem to be pretty active on social media too. At least that’s what my nephew said. He showed me some pictures on his phone from a site, had some kind of letters, said “S t e s r p d n o o”. Don’t make no sense to me, all these newfangled things they got nowadays. Back in my day, we didn’t have no phones or nothin’. Just went outside and played.
But hey, times change, I guess. And as long as them kids are havin’ fun and stayin’ outta trouble, that’s all that matters. So let ‘em play their basketball, and we’ll just sit here and watch ‘em grow up. That’s the way life goes, ain’t it?
