So, I’ve been messing around with this new “Bloomburrow” set from Magic: The Gathering, and I gotta say, it’s pretty wild. This is actually Magic’s 101st expansion and it’s got 281 cards in the main set. It is said that it contains each Mythic, Rare, Uncommon, and Common. I did get them all and started to play around to see what would happen.
First off, I opened up all the packs, which is always a blast. I noticed right away that the basic lands are full art, kind of like those Zendikar ones. They look super cool. The set is full of these adorable animal characters, which, you know, is a nice change of pace.
Then, I started building a few decks to try out. I really wanted to see how these “gift” effects play out. Basically, if you do something, the card does something extra, and you gotta decide if it’s worth it. It felt kind of like a mini-game within the game, and honestly, it was pretty fun. These cards seemed to play pretty well!
- I threw together a Commander deck first, since I heard some of the pricier cards in the set are gonna be staples there. It came with a full 100-card deck, a collector sample booster, and a crappy cardboard deck box. I definitely need a new deck box. I added a few of those “gift” cards in there, and man, they can really swing the game in your favor if you play ’em right.
- Next, I tried building a super-fast Limited deck. I found a card that seemed perfect for a deck where you’re not playing anything over three mana. I ended up winning a few rounds just by overwhelming my opponents with a bunch of small creatures. It was a blast.
I also noticed that gaining a little bit of life here and there is actually worth something in this set. I remember seeing a lot of cards that give you life as a bonus, and they actually made a difference in a couple of games.
After a few days of playing, I started to get a feel for the overall vibe of the set. It’s got this cool mix of group hug stuff and cards that reward you if your opponent is doing certain things. It’s definitely geared towards Commander, which might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I’m digging it.
The themes are fun, and it is easy to understand for newer players. Also, the set code of these cards is BLB, which are permitted in the Standard, Pioneer, and Modern formats. So I tried to build a deck using these cards in the Standard format.
Overall, I’m having a good time with Bloomburrow. It’s a solid set, and I think it’s gonna be a hit, especially with Commander players. Plus, who can resist those cute animals?
My Thoughts
This set’s a winner in my book. It’s got something for everyone, whether you’re a seasoned player or just starting out. I’m excited to see what other crazy decks people come up with. It’s been a wild ride so far, and I’m definitely gonna keep playing with it.
