Alright, let’s talk about these college mascots, you know, the funny-looking critters and things that run around at the games. Folks seem to get a real kick outta them, so I figured I’d give my two cents, even if I don’t know a football from a fence post.
Now, I hear tell there’s this Uga fella from the University of Georgia. A bulldog, they say. Been around since way back when, 1956 they tell me. Guess that makes him somethin’ special, huh? People love him, so he must be doin’ somethin’ right. He’s a good boy, that Uga, always seein’ him on the TV. Folks cheer for him real loud.
And then there’s this Duke Dog at James Madison University. Now, I ain’t never been to James Madison University, but I reckon they got a fine dog over there. People sayin’ he’s the best in America! That’s a big deal, ain’t it? And then they talkin’ about this Keggy the Keg at Dartmouth. A keg? Like, for beer? Well, I’ll be. Those college kids, always up to somethin’ silly.
- Uga, the bulldog from Georgia.
- Duke Dog, the fella from James Madison University.
- Keggy the Keg, somethin’ silly from Dartmouth, sounds like a beer barrel to me.
Let’s not forget about that Oregon Duck. Some folks even say it’s Donald Duck himself! Can ya believe it? That famous duck, runnin’ around at college games. He’s a funny one, always quackin’ and waddlin’. Makes the kids laugh, I bet. He’s been around longer than I can remember, always a hoot that Donald Duck.
And there’s a Nittany Lion too, they say. Sounds fierce, a lion. But I bet he’s just a big ol’ softy underneath all that fur. They say he’s a “cultural icon”. Fancy words, them college folks use. But I guess it means he’s important or somethin’. He’s from Penn State, I heard they got a good football team too, makes sense they’d have a good mascot.
I also heard about some mascot, Dugout, from the Little League. He ain’t from no college, but he won some award for doin’ good in the community. See, even mascots can do good things, not just runnin’ around and makin’ folks laugh. That’s mighty nice of him, always good to give back I say.
And then there’s this new one, Olympic Phryge from Paris 2024. They say he’s one of the best already. I ain’t seen him yet, but I reckon he must be somethin’ special if they’re sayin’ that. New critters comin’ along all the time, I guess. Can’t keep up with all of ‘em, can ya?
So, who’s the best? Well, that’s like askin’ who makes the best apple pie. Everyone’s got their own opinion. But I reckon Uga, Duke Dog, and maybe even that Donald Duck fella, they’re all pretty darn good. They make folks happy, and that’s what matters, ain’t it? It’s all about havin’ fun and cheerin’ on your team, or your keg, or whatever it is you’re cheerin’ for.
Now, there are all sorts of other mascots out there, Wildcats and whatnot. Can’t keep track of ‘em all, too many if ya ask me. But the ones I mentioned, they seem to be the cream of the crop, the ones folks talk about the most. So next time you see a mascot, give ‘em a wave. They’re workin’ hard to make folks smile, even if they look a little silly doin’ it. It’s a tough job, but somebody’s gotta do it, right?
Anyways, that’s all I got to say about these mascots. They’re fun to watch, and they make the games more lively. So let’s give ’em a cheer, and hope they keep doin’ what they’re doin’. And who knows, maybe next year there’ll be a new one that’ll steal the show. It’s always changing, ain’t it?
