Okay, so, today I tackled this “baseball positions crossword” thing. It was one of those online crossword puzzles, and the theme was, well, baseball positions. I got sucked into it because I saw a post somewhere, maybe on a forum or something, saying it was from the New York Times crossword from December 27, 2024. Yeah, future stuff. That hooked me, ’cause who doesn’t love a good time-traveling puzzle?
I dove right in, and let me tell you, it wasn’t just a walk in the park. They threw some curveballs, that’s for sure. I spent a good chunk of my day trying to figure out some of these clues. The clues themselves, they were a mix of easy and tough ones. One clue I remember was “Certain baseball positions: Abbr.” I had to rack my brain, flipping through all the baseball terms I could remember. And abbreviations? That made it even trickier.
- I started by filling in the ones I knew right away.
- Then I googled a bit. I mean, who doesn’t these days? I found a few crossword solver sites that had like, 30 possible answers for “baseball positions.” 30! Talk about overwhelming.
- I cross-referenced those answers with the number of letters and any letters I already had filled in. It was like a whole process of elimination game.
After a while, I started to see a pattern. Some of the answers were acronyms, and some were just shortened forms of the positions. I jot down some possible answers like “SS” for shortstop, “CF” for center field, and things like that. It was kind of fun, like being a detective or something.
But here’s where it got really interesting. I stumbled upon this random line from an old movie called “Midnight Cowboy.” The line was “I’M WALKIN’ HERE!” I guess it was a famous ad-lib or something. Anyway, it popped up in the crossword as a revealer. A revealer! I had no idea what that meant at first. Apparently, it’s a clue that helps you figure out the theme or some other answers in the puzzle.
Anyway, it was a wild ride. I ended up spending way more time on this crossword than I probably should have. But hey, I learned a few things. I learned about ad-libs, revealers, and a bunch of baseball position abbreviations I never even knew existed. Plus, I got to feel like a crossword pro for a day, even though I had to cheat a little…or a lot, haha. In the end, it’s a good time killer, I recommend it to everyone who wants to do some easy challenges.
