This here story, it’s about them Army football uniforms. See, they been playin’ football for a long, long time. And them clothes they wear, well, they ain’t always been the same. Changed a lot, they have, over the years. Just like everything else, I reckon.
Army Football Uniforms
Them football games, ‘specially the one ‘gainst Navy, they been goin’ on for more’n a hundred years. That’s a long time, ain’t it? Now, these fellas, they don’t just wear any old thing. Oh no. They get special Army football uniforms just for that game, every single year. Different every time, too.
- First time they played, you wouldn’t even recognize ’em.
- Back then, football clothes was all different, kinda plain lookin’.
- Now they got all these fancy designs and colors.
One year, they might be wearin’ somethin’ that looks like what them old-timey soldiers wore. Next year, somethin’ all new and shiny. I seen some with all sorts of pictures on ’em. Like that one time they had pictures of boats. Boats on their shirts! Can you imagine?
Army Uniforms Over The Years
It ain’t just them football clothes, neither. Their regular Army uniforms, them’s changed a whole heap too. Since way back in, when was it, 1775? That’s what I heard. Long time ago, anyhow.
- They used to wear blue, then brown, then green.
- Sometimes they got hats, sometimes they don’t.
- All depends on what they’re doin’, I guess.
Them Army fellas, they always lookin’ sharp, though, don’t they? Even when they’re all covered in mud and sweat. Gotta give ’em that. They’re tough, too. Playin’ football, fightin’ wars, it’s all hard work. I wouldn’t wanna do it, that’s for sure. My old bones couldn’t take it. Not in these Army football uniforms for me, no sir.
They say them new clothes, they got all sorts of fancy stuff in ’em. Keep ’em cool when it’s hot, warm when it’s cold. Don’t know how they do it. Back in my day, we just had wool. Itchy old wool. Made you sweat somethin’ fierce. But it kept you warm, I suppose.
Changes in Army Football Uniforms
These young folks today, they got it easy. All these fancy Army football uniforms, all these new-fangled contraptions. We didn’t have none of that. We just had our two hands and a whole lotta grit. And we did alright, too.
- Them helmets, they used to be leather.
- Now they’re all hard plastic, with cages on the front.
- Protect their faces, I reckon. Good idea, that.
It’s somethin’, ain’t it, how things change? One minute, you’re wearin’ one thing, next minute, it’s somethin’ completely different. Just gotta keep up, I guess. Like them Army football uniforms, always changin’, always gettin’ better, or so they say.
One year, they had this design on their pants, “ROTM,” it said. Come to find out that stands for somethin’ from a big battle a long time ago. Rock of the Marne, that’s it. See, even an old lady like me can learn somethin’ new every now and then.
More Changes in Army Uniforms
I remember one year, they had pictures of boats on their helmets, hand-painted, they were. Each one was painted special. One side was a boat under the water and the other was like an anchor with some kind of special pin on it. They said it was to honor some fellas that fly them airplanes.
- They use those Army uniforms to honor people, too.
- Remember the folks who fought before them.
- That’s a good thing, I think. Important to remember.
Well, I reckon that’s about all I got to say about them Army football uniforms. It’s been a long time, and they sure have changed a lot. Just like everything else, I suppose. World keeps on turnin’, and we just gotta keep up with it, best we can.
These Army folks, they are doin’ their best, wearin’ them uniforms, playin’ their football. And I’m proud of ’em, I am. Even if I don’t always understand all them fancy new clothes they wear. They’re good boys, every one of ’em.
