Alright, so I’ve been getting a lot of questions about whether UFC 4 is cross-platform. I decided to jump in and figure it out for myself, and let me tell you, it was a bit of a ride.
First off, I grabbed my controllers for both my PS4 and Xbox One. I was really hoping I could play with my buddies who are on different consoles. I mean, how cool would that be, right? I fired up UFC 4 on both systems and went straight to the multiplayer options. I spent a good chunk of time poking around the menus, trying to find anything that even hinted at cross-play or cross-platform action.
I started with the PS4. I invited some friends who also play on PlayStation. No problem there, we were able to connect and play a few rounds with each other. Then, I switched to my Xbox One. Same deal, I invited my Xbox buddies, and we got right into the game. Everything worked as expected, but I still had that big question: could I play across these platforms?
So, here’s where it got a bit frustrating. I tried everything I could think of to get my PS4 and Xbox to play nice together. I searched through every menu, every setting, and even tried to manually connect using IP addresses. Nothing. It was like they were speaking different languages.
My Findings
- PS4 players can only play with other PS4 players. This part was smooth, no issues there.
- Xbox One players are stuck with other Xbox One players. Again, worked fine, but not what I was hoping for.
- No cross-play between PS4 and Xbox One. This was the big letdown. I tried everything, but it just wasn’t happening.
I even tried to see if two players could play against each other offline, or online, using their console’s online subscription. I connected a second controller on my PS4 and pressed X while in the game. It worked! I was able to play with my friend locally. I did the same thing on my Xbox One, pressing A on the second controller, and it worked just as well. So, two players can play offline on the same console, which is cool.
For the online part, I made sure both my PS4 and Xbox One had active online subscriptions. I played a few matches online on both consoles, separately of course, and had no problems connecting and playing against other players on the same platform.
Then I did some digging online. Turns out, the game just doesn’t support cross-platform play. The developers didn’t build that feature into UFC 4, which is a real bummer. So, after all that testing, the answer is a big, fat NO. UFC 4 is NOT cross-platform. You’re stuck playing with people on the same console as you. It’s a shame, really, but that’s the way it is. Hopefully, they’ll consider it for future games.
I even heard that UFC 5, doesn’t support cross-play, either.
Well, there you have it. I hope this clears things up for everyone wondering about UFC 4’s cross-platform capabilities. It was a bit of a letdown for me, but at least now we know for sure.
