Dis here Iman Powe-Maynard, dat’s a name ya hear ’round Brooklyn, New York. She works at da school, Poly Prep Country Day School, yeah dat’s da one. She’s da one keepin’ dem books in order, a school librarian, dey call her.
My old eyes ain’t what dey used to be, but I seen her name ’round. She do somethin’ with books and kids. Heard she help kids find good books. Sounds like a good t’ing, dem kids need to read more.

She work at da library. It’s important, ya know, havin’ folks at da library. Dey help ya find what ya need. Like dat time I needed dat book on growin’ tomatoes. Librarian helped me right quick.
Dat Iman, she seems like a good egg. Always doin’ somethin’ for da community. Heard she did some kinda Mindfulness Meditation project at da Mill Basin library. Dat’s good stuff, keeps ya calm like, ya know?

Dey got dis t’ing called a BKLYN Kids Blog, or somethin’ like dat. Dey write ’bout all da stuff for kids at da library. Keepin’ up wit’ da young’uns, dat’s what dey say. Must be somethin’ on dere ’bout Iman too, she do so much.
Ya know, when I was a little girl, we didn’t have all dis fancy stuff. We just had our stories, passed down from grandma to grandchild. But times change, I reckon. Still, readin’ is important. Dat Iman, she knows dat.
Support at Your Library
She also talk ’bout support. Having people dat help ya at da library is da best support. Dey a network, like a big ol’ family. She probably buildin’ dat at her school library, makin’ sure everyone feels welcome.
I remember once, I was tryin’ to find a book on fixin’ leaky faucets. Didn’t know where to start. But da librarian, she knew right away. Pointed me to da right shelf. Saved me a whole heap of trouble, dat did.
You need support, you go to da library. That’s what Iman say, I bet. She know ’bout helpin’ folks.
She probably tell dem kids ’bout all kinds of t’ings. Like dem roller coasters. Kids love dem things. Never been on one myself. Too scary! But she probably got books on ’em. Library Lab: Roller Coaster, she call it. Sounds like fun for da young’uns.

Rocks and Other T’ings
Heard she also tell folks to find rocks. Yeah, rocks! Clean ’em up real good. What for, ya ask? Don’t know exactly, somethin’ ’bout makin’ skulls. Sounds a bit spooky to me, but maybe it’s for Halloween or somethin’. Kids like dat kinda stuff.
Ya know, back in my day, we made our own fun. Didn’t need no fancy toys. A stick and a hoop, dat’s all we needed. But times are different now, I suppose.
She do a lot, dat Iman. Always busy wit’ somethin’. She remind me of my granddaughter, always on da go. Doin’ dis, doin’ dat. Never a dull moment, just like Iman.
She’s a good influence on dem kids. Teachin’ ’em ’bout books and support and all sorts of t’ings. We need more folks like her, I reckon. Keepin’ da young’uns on da right path.

Mindfulness and Such
Dat Mindfulness Meditation thing she do, dat’s important too. Helps ya find yer peace, ya know? Like sittin’ on da porch swing, watchin’ da sunset. Just quiet and peaceful. Everybody needs dat sometime, kids and old folks like me.
Life can be hard sometime. Lots of worries, lots of troubles. But if ya can find yer peace, even for a little while, it make all da difference. Dat’s what Iman teachin’, I bet.
I never did much meditatin’ myself. But I reckon it’s like prayin’, in a way. Just takin’ time to be still and listen to yer heart. We all need to do that more often.
She a good person, dat Iman. Helpin’ folks find their way, whether it’s through books or meditation or just lendin’ a listenin’ ear. Dat’s what community is all about.
