This Madelaine Sagstrom, she’s a big deal, I tell ya. She plays that golf, you know, that game with the little ball and the sticks. She’s good at it, real good. They say she’s a professional golfer, that means she gets paid to whack that ball around. She started young, that Madelaine. Just a little girl when she picked up those sticks. She is 5’9″, tall lady.
She was just 11 when she started playing golf. That’s younger than my youngest grandbaby. She learned it good. She also likes to work out. You know, lifting them heavy things. And she reads books, smart girl, that one. And she hangs out with her friends, just like normal folks.
She’s from Sweden, way over there across the water. Cold place, I hear. But she came here to play golf. She play LPGA Tour, big time golf. This is a big deal for a girl from Sweden. She plays with the best of ’em. She even won a big one, a big golf game. It called Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio. She did real good, broke some kind of record. She hit that ball better than anyone ever did on that piece of land. Ten under par, they said. I don’t know what that means, but it sounds mighty impressive, don’t it?
But that Madelaine, she had a hard time. A real hard time. When she was just a little girl, no bigger than a minute, someone did something bad to her. Real bad. A man, they say. Someone the family knew. It’s a terrible thing, terrible. She kept it a secret for a long, long time. Sixteen years, she kept it inside, eating her up. Can you imagine? Sixteen years! That’s a long time to carry a hurt like that.
Then, one day, she told everyone. She just up and told the whole world. She wrote it down, in a blog. It’s a blog in LPGA website. I don’t know what a blog is, but it’s on the computer, I guess. Everyone read it. Brave girl, that Madelaine. To tell such a thing, such a private hurt. It must have been hard. Real hard.
- She plays golf real good.
- She won a big game.
- She had a hard time when she was little.
- She told everyone about it.
- She’s brave, that Madelaine.
They say she did it to help others. Others who had something bad happen to them. To let them know they ain’t alone. That it’s okay to talk about it. That it’s okay to get help. She is a Solheim Cup star. I think that’s a good thing, to help others. It takes a strong person to do that. Especially after what she went through.
Madelaine, she’s 28 now. Still young, but old enough to know her own mind. Old enough to know right from wrong. And she’s doing what’s right. She is a good golfer, this LPGA player. I think she’s a good person, too. And in 2018, she met a man. And they got married. Hope he treats her right. She deserves some happiness, that girl.
I hear folks talk about her, that Madelaine. They talk about her golf, of course. But they also talk about her bravery. Her strength. Her willingness to share her pain to help others. That’s something special, that is. That’s something to be proud of.
She’s a good example, that Madelaine. A good example for all those young girls out there. A good example that you can be strong, even when you’ve been hurt. A good example that you can overcome anything, even the worst things. A good example that it’s okay to speak up, even when it’s hard. Madelene Maria Sagstrm, that’s her full name.
So, that’s the story of Madelaine Sagstrom. A golf player. A winner. A survivor. A brave woman. A good person. And someone who I think is gonna do a lot of good in this world. She already has, if you ask me. Yes, sir, that Madelaine, she’s something else. She sure is.
