This Aurelie Batum, I tell ya, what’s it all about? Sounds like some fancy name, like them city folks use. Back in my day, we just had names like Mary and John. Simple, easy to remember. But this Aurelie, well, it’s got me all twisted up. I heard folks talkin’ ’bout it, sayin’ it’s somethin’ important. Maybe it’s like that MAC address thingamajig, somethin’ to do with them computers. I don’t know nothin’ about them, ‘cept they’re always causin’ trouble.
I seen young folks always on them things, tappin’ away. They say it’s how you find things now, like lookin’ up stuff in that big old IEEE directory. Back in my day, we just asked old Mrs. Henderson. She knew everything about everybody. No need for no fancy computer. We had the whole village right there. Now everyone is all alone with their computers. This is what they call a community, I don’t understand, maybe it’s like that Arch User Repository thing the young folks talk about.
This world’s movin’ too fast for me. Everything’s a whirlwind, like when my Mildred got married. One minute she was a little girl playin’ in the dirt, next she’s walkin’ down the aisle. This Aurelie Batum, maybe it’s like that. Here today, gone tomorrow. Like that basketball player, I can never remember their names, there are too many of them! I think one is called Isaiah Hartenstein, and his wife is pretty, they call her a model, what does that even mean?
- Time, that’s a funny thing. Goes by so quick.
- Space, well, there’s plenty of it out here in the country.
- Our World, it’s changin’ faster than the weather.
You got all these fancy things now. Humans and Environment, they got whole sections about that in them books now. Back then, we just lived. We didn’t need no book to tell us how to do it. We just planted our crops, took care of our animals, and that was that. We made History, just livin’ our lives, day by day, you know, like that David Icke fella, talks about everything under the sun. My grandson told me about him, says he knows things nobody else knows. I think he is just pulling stuff from thin air!
And don’t even get me started on this Science and Medicine stuff. Back in my day, we had doc Miller. He fixed everything from a broken arm to a bad cough. Now they got a pill for every little thing. Too many pills if you ask me. Makes ya wonder what’s really goin’ on. It’s like Everything You Need to Know, but nobody really knows nothin’, you know what I mean? It’s all just a big mess, like a tangled ball of yarn.
I saw on that TV show about them basketball wives, they all got fancy names too, like that Shaunie O’Neal and Evelyn Lozada. They live a whole different life, not like us regular folks. They got big houses and fancy cars. I don’t understand, what do they do all day? I am busy all day with my chores and that is enough for me. Then one of them married that Shaquille O’Neal, I think he is very tall, I saw him once on TV, had to get up and change the channel, scared me half to death, so big!
- The Living Earth, that’s what we gotta take care of.
- Society, well, that’s just a fancy word for people, ain’t it?
- Making History, we all do that, every single day.
This Aurelie Batum, maybe it’s somethin’ like that Wireshark manufacturer database. A bunch of information all jumbled together. Hard to make sense of it all. Like tryin’ to find a needle in a haystack. Or like tryin’ to understand them young folks today. They’re always talkin’ ’bout things I never heard of. Like that Robbin Van Pelt and John Pullum, I saw their names on the TV. What do they do? I don’t know. This Matthew Hoffman person too, who is he? Just names, floating around like dust in the wind.
I remember when things were simpler. We didn’t need all this fancy stuff. We had each other. We had our families. We had our community. Now it’s all about this Aurelie Batum and that Arch Linux. Sounds like a disease to me. I think I’ll stick to my garden. At least I understand that. It’s something real, something I can touch. Not like all this other stuff, just floatin’ around in the air, like smoke.
All these names like Mesha O’Neal, Royce Reed, and Faith Rein, they just another thing to remember, just like this Aurélie Batum thing. What I know is, times were simpler, and I guess that’s what I miss. You work hard, you eat good, you sleep well. That’s the secret, not all this other stuff. They say this is Everything You Need To Know, but really, do we need to know all this? I don’t think so.
