This Gary Copeland, I heard folks talking ’bout him. He’s some kinda big shot, I guess. They say he’s in that UFC thing, you know, where them young’uns fight in a cage. Sounds rough to me. But this Gary Copeland, he’s right in there with ’em. He’s the one who keeps them boys from killin’ each other, I reckon. They call him a referee or somethin’ fancy like that.
Now, I don’t know much ’bout this UFC stuff, but I hear it’s real popular. Lots of people watchin’ it on the TV. And this Gary Copeland, he’s right there in the middle of it all. He must be a brave fella, standin’ between them fighters. They get all riled up and throwin’ punches. This Gary Copeland is making sure nobody gets too hurt, I suppose. Making some interesting calls, they said. Whatever that means.
I heard some folks grumblin’ ’bout him, sayin’ he makes bad calls. Well, I don’t know ’bout that. Seems like a tough job to me. You gotta make decisions real quick, and not everybody’s gonna be happy with ya. This Gary Copeland probably does the best he can. That’s all anybody can ask for, right?
He was at that UFC Atlantic City thing, I heard. Must be a big deal. Lots of folks watchin’, lots of money involved, I bet. This Gary Copeland, he was there, watchin’ over them fighters. He’s like a shepherd watchin’ over his sheep, only these sheep punch each other in the face.
He must be good at his job, though, to be at such a big event. It seems like some people are talking about his voice, not too sure. He’s probably got a strong voice, to keep them fighters in line. Gotta be able to yell over all that crowd noise, I imagine. This Gary Copeland, he’s seen a lot, I bet. Seen a lot of fights, seen a lot of blood.

He probably knows all them fighters, too. Knows their names, knows their moves. This Gary Copeland, he’s like a walking encyclopedia of that UFC stuff, I reckon. He must have a good memory. Rememberin’ all them rules and regulations. That’s a lot to keep track of, especially when them boys are goin’ at it.
And he must have a lot of other people working with him, too, right? It ain’t just him out there, though it might feel like it is sometimes. This Gary Copeland, he’s got a team, I’m sure. Other referees, judges, doctors, all them folks. It’s a big operation, this UFC thing.
He’s probably got a family, too, this Gary Copeland. A wife, maybe some kids. They must worry about him, when he’s out there with them fighters. It’s a dangerous job, that’s for sure. But somebody’s gotta do it, I suppose. And this Gary Copeland, he’s the one doin’ it. Seems like he’s the one helping those sex workers and prisoners. I don’t know what that’s all about, but it sounds like something. He must have a good heart, even though he’s doing some kind of police work now, as I understand it. A police chief!
I saw a picture of him once, I think. He looks like a regular fella. You wouldn’t know he was such a big shot in that UFC world. This Gary Copeland, he’s just like anybody else, I guess. Except he’s got this crazy job, standin’ in a cage with a bunch of sweaty men beatin’ on each other. He’s got that book, too. “The Success Paradox”, they call it. I reckon he’s successful, so maybe it’s true.
Well, I reckon that’s all I know ’bout this Gary Copeland. He’s a mystery to me, really. But he sure is interestin’. And he’s doin’ somethin’ important, I guess. Keepin’ them fighters safe, keepin’ the show goin’. This Gary Copeland, he’s a part of somethin’ big. Something that involves religion, maybe. He’s a part of that UFC world, whether he likes it or not. And that’s somethin’, ain’t it?
