Well, let me tell ya ’bout this Sears thing, you know, the one they got in Alabama. Folks been talkin’ ’bout it, and I figured I’d chime in.
Now, I ain’t no fancy city slicker, but I know a thing or two ’bout shoppin’. And Sears, well, it used to be the place to go. Got everything you needed, from them washing machines to them overalls you wear out in the fields.
But things changed, ya know? Like the weather, always changin’. These days, folks tell me there ain’t many Sears stores left. They sayin’ most of ’em closed down, shut their doors for good. Heard tell it’s all goin’ online now, this here “internet” thingamajig. My grandson, he’s always fiddlin’ with that phone of his, buyin’ stuff from who-knows-where.
Anyways, back to Sears in Alabama. Folks used to go there for, well, just about everything. If you needed a new icebox, Sears had it. Needed tools to fix the tractor? Sears had ’em too. Clothes for the kids? Yep, Sears had that covered. It was a one-stop shop, ya know? Made life easy, that’s for sure.
But now, they sayin’ there’s only a handful of ’em left. And findin’ one? Well, that’s like findin’ a needle in a haystack, they say. You gotta go lookin’ all over, askin’ folks where to find one. Heard tell there’s some in them big cities, like Birmingham and Tuscaloosa. But out here in the sticks? Forget about it.
- First off, they got tools. Good ones too, not that flimsy stuff that breaks after ya use it twice.
- Then they got them clothes. Work clothes, Sunday-go-to-meetin’ clothes, you name it.
- And don’t forget them appliances. Stoves, fridges, washers, dryers… the whole shebang.
Now, I ain’t been to one of them big city Sears stores myself, but folks say they still got a good selection. But it ain’t the same as it used to be, they tell me. The stores ain’t as big, and they don’t have as much stuff. And the prices? Well, that’s another story. Everything’s gettin’ more expensive these days, ain’t it? Makes an old lady like me worry ’bout where the money’s gonna come from.
But the youngins, they say it’s all ’bout shoppin’ online now. They say you can find anything you want on that there internet, and they deliver it right to your door. Sounds convenient, I guess, but I still like to see what I’m buyin’ before I hand over my hard-earned cash. I like to feel the fabric, ya know? See how sturdy the tools are. Can’t do that on no computer screen.
Anyway, this Sears situation in Alabama is a real shame, if you ask me. It was a good store, a reliable store. Folks depended on it. But I guess that’s just the way things go. Nothin’ stays the same forever, that’s for sure. Like my old mule, Bess, she ain’t what she used to be neither.
So, if you’re lookin’ for a Sears in Alabama, you better do your research. Find out where they are, what hours they’re open. And don’t be surprised if you have to drive a ways to get there. It ain’t like the old days, when there was a Sears in every town. Those days are gone, long gone.
But hey, at least they still got that online store, right? My grandson showed me how to use it. It ain’t the same as goin’ to the store, but it’s better than nothin’, I reckon. You can still find some good deals if you know where to look. Just gotta be careful, ya know? There’s a lot of scammers out there on that internet, tryin’ to take your money. Gotta be smart about it.
So, that’s the story on Sears in Alabama, as far as I can tell. It ain’t the same as it used to be, but it’s still around, in one form or another. And who knows, maybe they’ll make a comeback someday. Stranger things have happened. But for now, it’s a hunt to find one, and online is the new way to go. That’s all I got to say about it.
