Alright, let’s talk about them sneakers, the ones they call “Chinese New Year Kyrie”. I don’t know much about all this fancy basketball stuff, but my grandson, he’s crazy about it. Always yappin’ about this Kyrie fella and his shoes.
So, from what I gather, this Kyrie guy, he used to have a deal with Nike, you know, that big shoe company. They made all sorts of shoes for him, and one of ’em was this “Chinese New Year” one. Sounds fancy, huh? Like somethin’ you’d wear to a big party or somethin’. But no, it’s just a basketball shoe, I guess. My grandson showed me pictures. Lots of red and gold, I think. Lucky colors, they say.
- Red for good luck and happiness.
- Gold for wealth and prosperity.
Heard tell that they ain’t makin’ these shoes no more. Seems like Nike and Kyrie, they had a bit of a falling out. Don’t know the details, somethin’ about Kyrie not playin’ much, maybe? And somethin’ ’bout the fella who designed the shoes, name of Ben somethin’-or-other. He was the main guy makin’ these Kyries for a while, even made one called “Kyrie 4” back in 2017. That’s a long time ago, ain’t it? Time flies, I tell ya.
Now, they got a new shoe out, called “Kyrie 9”. Just came out last year, around November. My grandson, he’s been beggin’ me to get him a pair. Says they’re the best ones yet. I don’t know, they all look the same to me. But he says this one’s different, special. Kids these days, always wantin’ the newest, shiniest thing.
I remember when shoes were just shoes. You wore ’em ’til they fell apart, then you got a new pair. None of this fancy business, with special colors and designs. But I guess that’s just how things are now. Everything’s gotta be flashy and new.
Anyway, back to this “Chinese New Year” shoe. It seems like it was pretty popular for a while. Folks liked the colors, the design, I guess. And Kyrie, he was a big star, so that helped too. But now, with him and Nike not workin’ together no more, I reckon these shoes are gonna be hard to find. Probably cost a pretty penny too, if you can find ’em. Collectors, they call ’em. Always wantin’ the old stuff.
It’s funny, ain’t it? Somethin’ that was just a shoe a few years ago, now it’s like a treasure. Makes you think, don’t it? Maybe I shoulda kept some of my old shoes. Who knows, maybe they’d be worth somethin’ someday. But then again, I wore ’em ’til they fell apart, so probably not.
So, there you have it. That’s all I know about this “Chinese New Year Kyrie” shoe. Not much, I admit, but I tried my best. It’s a basketball shoe, red and gold, made by Nike for a fella named Kyrie, but they ain’t makin’ ’em no more. And now they got a new shoe, the “Kyrie 9”. That’s the gist of it, I reckon. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go make some supper. All this talk about shoes has made me hungry.
My grandson, he keeps talkin’ about how these shoes are special because they have somethin’ to do with the Chinese New Year. I don’t know much about that either, but I do know it’s a big holiday, lots of celebrations and good food. Maybe that’s why they made the shoes red and gold. Like I said, lucky colors.
And that Ben fellow, the shoe designer, he must be pretty smart. Figurin’ out how to make a shoe that folks want to buy. It’s more than just sewin’ leather together, I guess. There’s a lot of thinkin’ and plannin’ that goes into it. It’s a whole different world, this shoe business. More complicated than I ever thought.
I heard some folks sayin’ that these “Chinese New Year” Kyries might be worth a lot of money someday. Like I said, collectors, they go crazy for stuff like that. My grandson, he’s already talkin’ about keepin’ his shoes in good condition, so they’ll be worth somethin’ later on. I told him he should just wear ‘em and enjoy ‘em, but he don’t listen to me. Kids these days, always thinkin’ about money.
Well, I guess that’s about all I got to say about these shoes. It’s been a long ramble, hasn’t it? But I hope I explained it all okay. It’s just a shoe, after all, but it seems like it means a lot to some folks. Me? I’ll stick to my old comfy shoes. They might not be fancy, but they get me where I need to go. And that’s all that matters, ain’t it?
