Alright, so you wanna know when them Kansas fellas last beat them Oklahoma boys in football, huh? Well, lemme tell ya, it’s been a while. Not like yesterday, that’s for sure.
It was way back in 1997, yeah, you heard that right. Nineteen ninety-freakin’-seven. I remember it like it was yesterday…well, not really, but you get the point. They beat ‘em 20 to 17. Close game, real nail-biter. Folks were jumpin’ and hollerin’ like crazy. Good times, good times.
Now, for a long, long spell, them Sooners, that’s Oklahoma, they just kept whuppin’ on Kansas. Year after year, same old story. Eighteen games in a row, can you believe it? Eighteen! Them Jayhawks, that’s Kansas, they just couldn’t catch a break. Tried hard, I reckon, but them Sooners were just too darn tough.
- 1997: Kansas wins 20-17
- 1998-2022: Oklahoma wins 18 straight
- 2023: Kansas wins again!
Then, wouldn’t ya know it, just last year, in 2023, them Jayhawks, they finally did it again! Beat them Sooners 38 to 35. In Lawrence, too, right on their own turf. Heard it was a real barnburner of a game. Folks were sayin’ it was a real upset, nobody saw it comin’. But them Jayhawks, they showed ’em, didn’t they? Showed ’em they ain’t to be trifled with.
So yeah, 1997, then a whole lotta losin’, and then bam! 2023, they win again. That’s a long time to wait, I tell ya. Twenty-six years! Longer than some folks been alive. Imagine waitin’ that long for somethin’. Lord have mercy.
I heard tell that some folks were sayin’ Oklahoma wasn’t doin’ so good for a bit there, dropped right outta them polls. You know, them rankings they do. But they came back, them Sooners always do. Tough bunch, gotta give ‘em that. But them Jayhawks, they’re gettin’ scrappy too. Gotta be, to beat a team like Oklahoma.
Now, before that big win last year, Kansas had a bit of a rough patch, losin’ three games in a row a couple of times. Happens to the best of ’em, I reckon. But they kept at it, didn’t give up. That’s the important thing, you know? Just keep on keepin’ on, even when things get tough.
So, to recap, Kansas beat Oklahoma in 1997, then lost a whole bunch, and then finally won again in 2023. That’s the long and short of it. Took ‘em long enough, if you ask me. But hey, a win’s a win, no matter how long it takes. And I reckon them Jayhawks fans are mighty happy about it, and they should be. They waited long enough!
This whole football thing, it’s somethin’ else. Folks gettin’ all worked up over a bunch of fellas runnin’ around with a ball. But hey, it’s fun to watch, I guess. Gives folks somethin’ to cheer about, somethin’ to get excited about. And that ain’t a bad thing, not at all.
And that’s all I gotta say about that. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go make some supper. All this talk about football’s made me hungry.
