Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about this fella, Reese McGuire. He’s a baseball player, you know, one of them fellas who catch the ball. Born in 1995, makes him…let’s see…carry the one…yep, he’s about 29 years young now. Grew up in Seattle, Washington, with a couple of brothers, Cash and Shane. Seems like a good family, them McGuires.
Now, Reese, he’s been playin’ this baseball for a good while. Started young, they say. Played in the Little League with his older brother, Cash. Folks always said he was a good catcher, even back in high school. Guess they were right, ’cause he got drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates way back in 2013. First round, no less! That’s a big deal, you know, like gettin’ the blue ribbon at the county fair for your prize-winning pumpkin.
- He’s a catcher, means he squats a lot. Gotta be tough on the knees, I reckon.
- Plays for…well, he’s played for a few teams. Toronto Blue Jays, Chicago White Sox, Boston Red Sox… Seems like he gets around.
- He’s a lefty batter, but throws right-handed. My grandpappy used to say that’s a sign of a smart fella, bein’ able to do things with both sides. Don’t know if it’s true, but it sounds good.
Folks talk about him bein’ the “No. 2 option” catcher, which I guess means he ain’t the main guy, but he still gets to play some. He’s had a couple of games lately where he got two hits, which sounds pretty good to me. It’s like gettin’ two eggs in the henhouse instead of just one, right? More is always better, I say.
They say he’s a big fella, 6 feet tall and 233 pounds. That’s a lot of beef! You need to be strong to catch them fast balls, I reckon. Wouldn’t want to get hit by one of those things, no sir. He’s a free agent now, which means he ain’t tied to no team, like a stray dog lookin’ for a new home. I guess he’ll find somewhere to play, a fella like him, good with the glove and all.
His brothers, they played baseball too. Cash played second base for some university, and Shane, he was a catcher too, just like Reese. Must run in the family, that love for baseball. Like how the Johnsons always win the pie-eatin’ contest at the town picnic. Some things just stick with a family, I guess.
Now, I don’t know much about fancy stats and all that baseball talk, but I know a good player when I see one. And Reese McGuire, he seems like a good fella, works hard and does his best. That’s all you can ask for, really. Whether he’s hittin’ home runs or just catchin’ the ball, he’s out there givin’ it his all. And that’s somethin’ to be admired, I tell ya.
He’s had some good reviews from the scouts and managers back in the day. Guess that means he was a good player coming up. It ain’t easy to make it to the big leagues, you know. Lots of fellas try, but only a few make it. Reese, he made it. That’s something to be proud of. He’s still out there playing, still competing, even though he ain’t the star of the team. Reminds me of ol’ Bessie, my milk cow. She ain’t the prettiest cow in the pasture, but she gives good milk every day, steady as she goes. And that’s what counts, ain’t it? Being steady and reliable.
So there ya have it, a little somethin’ about Reese McGuire. A baseball catcher, a family man, and a hard worker. Seems like a good egg to me.
