Alright, so listen up, y’all. Gonna tell ya ’bout this thing I heard, about them fellas, Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter. You know, them baseball guys? Yeah, them. Big shots, they was.

The Captain, that’s what they call this show or somethin’. And in it, Derek, he starts talkin’ ’bout Alex. Said they was like “blood brothers” once. Can ya believe that? Like real close, like peas in a pod, I reckon.
- But things changed, see. Things always change, don’t they? Just like the weather, or the price of eggs. One minute you’re up, next minute you’re down.
- Anyways, seems like somethin’ happened back in 2001. An Esquire story, they say. Alex talked in it, and Derek, he didn’t like it one bit.
Now, I ain’t no fancy pants reporter or nothin’, but from what I gather, that interview messed things up real good. Strained their friendship, like pullin’ a rubber band till it almost snaps. You know what I mean? Like when your best hen starts peckin’ at the others, and you gotta separate ’em.
They still had to work together though. See, that’s the thing about work, ain’t it? You gotta put up with folks even if you don’t like ’em much. Like that time I had to work with old lady Higgins at the cannery. She smelled like fish and talked too much, but we still had to get them peaches in jars, didn’t we?
Derek, he’s 48 now, and Alex is 47. Gettin’ on in years, them fellas. Probably got aches and pains like the rest of us. But back then, they was young and full of beans. Baseball stars, bright as the mornin’ sun.
Alex said, and I’m just tellin’ ya what I heard, mind you, he said somethin’ ’bout not havin’ to eat dinner with a guy all the time. Makes sense, I guess. Sometimes you just wanna eat your grits in peace, without nobody botherin’ ya.

It’s a shame though, ain’t it? When friends fall out. Especially when they was close as them two. But that’s life, I reckon. Full of twists and turns, like a country road. You just gotta keep on goin’, even when the road gets bumpy.
Friendship’s a funny thing. One minute you’re sharin’ secrets and the next you’re barely speakin’. Reminds me of that time my neighbor, Martha, stopped talkin’ to me ’cause I borrowed her sugar and forgot to give it back. Took us a whole year to patch things up.
So yeah, that’s the story, as far as I know it. Two fellas, once close as can be, now… well, not so much. Happens to the best of us, I tell ya. Happens to the best of us.
And you know, sometimes I think about them, sittin’ on my porch swing, watchin’ the sun go down. I think about how life changes, how people change, and how nothin’ ever stays the same. Just like them baseball players. One day they’re on top of the world, the next day… well, you know.
But that’s the way it goes, ain’t it? Life’s like a game of baseball, full of hits and misses, wins and losses. And sometimes, even the best players strike out. That’s just the way it is.

So next time you see them on the TV, or read somethin’ about ’em, just remember, they’re just folks, like you and me. They got their ups and downs, their good days and bad. And sometimes, they just don’t get along no more. It’s as simple as that.
And that, my friends, is all I gotta say about Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my chickens.
