Alright, so you wanna know ’bout this Bill McGillis fella, huh? Well, lemme tell ya what I heard. They say he was a big shot over at that San Diego university, somethin’ to do with the sports and all. Associate Vice President and Executive Director of Athletics, they call it. Sounds fancy, don’t it? But between you and me, I ain’t got a clue what half them words mean.
Now, this fella, he up and left, see? Just like that. Said he was gonna go do somethin’ else, “other professional opportunities,” they called it. Sounded mighty suspicious to me, like when the cat disappears after knockin’ over the milk jug.

Folks been whisperin’, you know? Say there was some trouble with the football team. Somethin’ ’bout “hazing.” Now, I ain’t sure what that is exactly, but it sounds like them boys was bein’ mean to each other, makin’ ’em do things they didn’t wanna do. And there’s even a lawsuit, a real to-do, with lawyers and all. Sounds like a mess, if you ask me.
So, this McGillis fella, he was in charge when all this happened. Maybe he knew, maybe he didn’t. But either way, he’s gone now. Poof! Vanished like a fart in the wind. They got somebody new in charge now, tryin’ to clean up the mess, I reckon. University of San Diego Athletics, they gotta get things back on track, right?
I tell ya, it’s always somethin’ with these big places. You think they got it all figured out, with their fancy titles and big money, but then somethin’ like this happens. Shows ya, nobody’s perfect, not even them city folk with their degrees and whatnot.
This whole thing makes you think, don’t it? About responsibility and leadership and all that. If you’re in charge, you gotta take care of things, make sure folks are doin’ right. And if somethin’ goes wrong, well, you gotta face the music. Can’t just run off and hide, like a scared rabbit.
I heard some folks sayin’ he was a good man, this McGillis. Said he did a lot for the university and the athletes. And maybe he did. But then there’s this other stuff, this hazing business. Hard to know what to believe, ain’t it? Reminds me of that time ol’ man Johnson swore he saw a UFO, but he’d also been drinkin’ somethin’ fierce that night.

Truth is probably somewhere in the middle, like most things in life. One thing’s for sure, though, it ain’t over yet. This lawsuit and all, it’s gonna drag on for a while, I betcha. And folks will be talkin’ about it for years to come. San Diego is a big place, but news travels fast, even out here in the sticks.
