Now, I ain’t never played no golf. My kinda game is more like chasin’ chickens and hoein’ the garden. But I seen them golfers on TV, all dressed up in their fancy shirts and pants. Makes ya wonder, don’t it? Why they gotta wear special clothes just to hit a little ball?

What kind of clothes we talkin’ about?

  • First off, they got them shirts, you know, the ones with the little collars. Some got stripes, some got checks, some just plain colors. They look alright, I guess, but they ain’t nothin’ like my old work shirts. Them golf shirts probably cost a pretty penny, too.
  • Then they got them pants, or sometimes them shorts, depends on the weather I reckon. They always look so neat and pressed. Not a wrinkle on ’em. My pants, well, they got plenty of wrinkles, from workin’ hard all day.
  • And don’t forget them hats! Keeps the sun outta their eyes, I s’pose. Some got them big floppy hats, some got them baseball caps. I got my own hat, keeps the sun off my neck when I’m weedin’ the garden.
  • Oh, and shoes! Them golf shoes got little spikes on the bottom, so they don’t slip when they swingin’ that club. Fancy, ain’t it? My shoes are just plain ol’ work boots, good for stompin’ around the farm.

Why so many brands?

Now, the paper was talkin’ ’bout “brands.” That’s just a fancy word for who makes the clothes, I figger. Seems like there’s a whole bunch of ’em. Why, I don’t know. One shirt’s just like another to me, long as it keeps ya covered up. But these city folks, they like their fancy brands. Makes ’em feel important, I guess.

I heard tell of some brands, like… uh… I can’t rightly remember the names. Too many of ’em, all soundin’ the same. Somethin’ like “Tiger this” and “Eagle that.” Sound like animals to me. Why they gotta name clothes after animals? Makes no sense. But then again, a lot of things them city folks do don’t make no sense to me.

How much does it cost?

And the prices! Lord have mercy! I heard tell of them shirts costin’ more than my whole week’s groceries! Can ya believe that? Just for a shirt! Makes my head spin. I could buy a whole bolt of fabric for that price and make shirts for the whole family. But them golfers, they got money to burn, I reckon.

Where do you buy this stuff?

They sell these here golf clothes in special stores, I hear. Big fancy stores in the city, with bright lights and shiny floors. Ain’t nothin’ like my local feed store, that’s for sure. You can probably buy ’em online too, on that there internet thingy. My grandson tried to show me how to use it once, but I couldn’t make heads or tails of it. Too complicated for an old woman like me.

Is it worth it?

So, is all this fancy golf apparel worth it? I don’t know. If it makes them golfers happy, I guess that’s all that matters. Me, I’ll stick to my old work clothes. They’re comfortable, they’re durable, and they don’t cost an arm and a leg. And they sure do the job when I’m out there in the garden or tendin’ to the chickens.

But hey, to each their own, right? If them city folks wanna spend their money on fancy golf clothes, that’s their business. Me, I’d rather spend my money on somethin’ practical, like a good pair of work boots or a sturdy hoe. That’s just plain common sense, if you ask me.

What I’ve learned

So, this “golf apparel brand nyt” thing, it’s all about them fancy clothes golfers wear. Lots of brands, high prices, and special stores. Not for me, but hey, different strokes for different folks, as they say. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on them chickens.
