So, I decided to grab one of those golf arm band things. My swing felt all over the place, you know? Like my arms had a mind of their own, totally disconnected from my body turn. Read somewhere these bands could help fix that.

Getting Started with It
When it arrived, it looked simple enough. Just an elastic band, basically. Getting it on was the first step. Slipped it over my arms, just above the elbows. Felt pretty weird right away. Kinda restrictive, like I was tied up a bit. Wasn’t sure if I’d even be able to swing.
Took a few practice swings in the living room first, no ball. Felt super awkward. My usual loop-the-loop backswing? Nope. The band just wouldn’t let me do it. It basically forced my arms to stay closer together and move with my chest rotation. It felt unnatural because my old way was so ingrained.
Hitting Balls – The Real Test
Okay, took it to the range. Still felt strange putting it on. Started with some slow, easy swings. Half swings, really. The band immediately gave feedback. If my arms tried to run off on their own, I felt the tension. It pretty much physically blocked my bad habits.
Here’s what I noticed:
- It definitely forced my arms and body to work more as a unit. No choice, really.
- The feeling at the top of the backswing was completely different. Much more compact.
- Impact felt more solid on the few times I managed to sync everything up. Felt like my body was delivering the hit, not just my arms flailing at it.
It wasn’t magic though. Hit quite a few clunky shots because I was fighting the band, or just thinking too much about it. It makes you aware of how disconnected you might be.

Did it Actually Work?
Yeah, I’d say it did help. It wasn’t about wearing it all the time. I used it for maybe 10-15 minutes at the start of a practice session. It gave me the feeling of connection. That was the main thing. I could then try to replicate that feeling without the band on.
It sort of drilled the sensation into me. Taking it off, I could still remember that feeling of keeping the triangle formed by my arms and shoulders intact. My swing wasn’t perfect overnight, far from it. But the band was a good tool to show me what I should be feeling.
So yeah, I gave the golf arm band a try. It felt weird, forced me to change, and actually gave me a feel for staying connected. It’s a training aid, simple as that. Helped me understand a specific part of the swing better by physically limiting my flaws.
