Thinking About Those Nick Saban VP Odds
So, the other day, I stumbled across some chatter online. Nick Saban for VP? Seriously? At first, I thought it was a joke, you know? Like one of those memes that goes around.

But then I saw it pop up again. Got me curious. So, I spent a bit of time, maybe half an hour, just poking around. Fired up the old browser, typed in stuff like “Saban VP talk,” “odds on Nick Saban politician.” Just wanted to see if this was a real thing people were putting money on, or just hot air.
What I Found (or Didn’t)
Honestly? It mostly seems like novelty stuff, water cooler talk. Didn’t see any major betting houses taking it super seriously. Maybe some small offshore places list crazy odds for everything under the sun, but nothing mainstream jumped out. It felt more like wishful thinking from football fans or maybe people just trying to stir the pot.
It reminds me a bit of this time back when I was working on a big project, completely unrelated, tech stuff. We had this one guy, quiet dude, always just did his specific coding task. Never said much. Then one day, out of the blue, he completely redesigned the user interface over a weekend. Nobody asked him to. Management was initially furious, like “Who told you to do this?” But guess what? His design was brilliant. Way better than what the ‘official’ design team had come up with. Totally unexpected. Everyone had him pegged as just a backend coder, and boom, he shows this hidden talent. It really threw everyone for a loop, made us rethink how we saw people’s roles.
Seeing Saban’s name tossed into the VP ring feels kinda like that, but maybe less useful? People see “leader,” “disciplinarian,” “winner” from his football career and try to paste it onto politics. It’s like they forget politics is a whole different ballgame. Running a football team, even a dynasty like Alabama’s, isn’t exactly the same as navigating Congress or foreign policy. There’s a whole different set of skills involved, lots of compromise, not just top-down commands.

Why Saban Though?
- He just retired, so he’s ‘available’. People see an empty slot and want to fill it.
- He’s a huge name, especially in the South. Name recognition counts for something, I guess.
- People associate him with discipline and getting results, which lots of folks want in government.
But does that make him VP material? I dunno. Seems like a massive stretch. He’s never shown any real political ambition before, has he? It’s like folks see a vacuum or don’t like the current options, so they just start throwing famous names out there. It’s weird how we do that. We see someone successful in one field and automatically assume they’d be great in another, totally different field. Like expecting a master plumber to suddenly be a great chef just because they’re good with their hands. Doesn’t usually work out that way.
So yeah, spent some time looking into it. Didn’t find much substance, mostly just speculation and maybe a few crazy long-shot bets listed somewhere obscure. It was an interesting rabbit hole for a bit, but mostly just confirmed my first thought: it’s pretty outlandish. Fun to talk about for five minutes, maybe, but doesn’t seem grounded in reality. Just goes to show how wild political speculation can get these days, especially when people are looking for something, anything, different.
