Okay, so I’ve been trying to get better at predicting soccer match outcomes. It’s tough, but I figured I’d document my process for the Botafogo vs Universitario game. Maybe it’ll help someone else, or maybe I’ll look back at this and laugh at how wrong I was.

Digging into the Data
First thing I did was just a basic search for recent results. You know, just to get a feel for how both teams have been performing.
I opened a few sites that had match histories and stats, so I went team by team.
- Botafogo: I checked out their last few games, noting down wins, losses, and draws. Looked at their home and away performance, because, you know, home advantage is a thing.
- Universitario: Same deal. Checked their recent form, how they’ve been scoring, and if they tend to struggle away from home.
Trying to Find Patterns
After getting a general sense of their form, I wanted to see if I could find any head-to-head stats. Have these teams played each other before? If so, how did those matches go?
It takes time to search for this, because the information, is not always clear. Sometimes I had to go through several pages to check date, and places of those matches.
I also looked for any news about injuries or suspensions. A key player missing can really change a team’s dynamic. A simple search helps for this.

Forming a Prediction (and Doubting Myself)
Based on everything I found, I started to form an opinion. “Okay, Botafogo has been strong at home, Universitario has been inconsistent… maybe Botafogo has the edge?” That kind of thinking.
But honestly, there’s always that nagging doubt. Soccer is so unpredictable! A random red card, a lucky bounce, a moment of brilliance… anything can happen.
I tried not to let my own biases influence me. Like, I might want a certain team to win, but that doesn’t mean they will win. I had to stick to the data as much as possible.
The Result (We’ll See!)
In the end, it is just that, my prediction, based on data and a simple analyze that I did. It is not an exact science.
I’m still learning, and every match is a chance to refine my process. I’ll keep track of how my predictions turn out, and hopefully, I’ll get better over time. Or maybe I’ll just stick to watching the games for fun!
