Okay, so I saw this “big battery” clue on the NYT crossword today and was like, “What the heck?” I’m not a crossword expert, but I do enjoy giving them a shot sometimes. This one stumped me at first.

I started by brainstorming, you know, just throwing out ideas. What’s a big battery? My first thought went to, like, those giant car batteries, but that didn’t seem right for a crossword. It felt too…literal, I guess.
Then, I tried filling in some of the surrounding words in the puzzle, hoping that would give me some context. Sometimes that helps, right? You get a few letters, and suddenly, the answer just clicks. But in this case, the words around it were just as confusing.
So, I decided to take a break. I got up, walked around, made some coffee. My grandma always said that was the best way to figure things out. Sometimes you got to go away for a while and your brain just suddenly drop it on you. It didn’t work.
My next idea was to search on Google.I figured, someone out there has probably tackled this crossword before. Lo and behold, I was right.
It turns out; the answer is “DURACELL.” When I first saw it, I was mad at myself. But after I thought about it for a bit, it does make perfect sense. I mean, Duracell is a pretty well-known, one of the “big” battery brands.

So yeah, that’s my “big battery” crossword adventure. Not exactly a thrilling tale of high-stakes puzzle-solving, but hey, I got there in the end! Now, I’ll recognize it if that hint ever shows up in the future.
