Alright, so I was watching some UFC fights the other night, and Max Holloway, “Blessed” himself, came out waving a flag. I’d seen it before, but I was like, “Wait, what flag is that actually?” I knew he was from Hawaii, but it wasn’t the US flag, obviously.
![The flag Max Holloway carries: A symbol of pride - find out why!](https://www.fiorenzoborghi.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/42d2b6ac13a2b4a2bcff0fa45b5e6492.png)
So, first thing I did was pause the fight – crucial step, don’t want to miss any action! – and grabbed my phone. I did a quick search, just typed in “Max Holloway flag,” you know, keeping it simple.
The results popped up pretty fast. I saw a bunch of images of the flag and some articles talking about it. Turns out, it’s the Hawaiian flag, the official one. I recognized the stripes – red, white, and blue – but there’s also a little Union Jack in the corner. That threw me off for a sec.
I skimmed through a couple of the articles to get the gist. Apparently, that Union Jack is there because of some historical connection with Great Britain, way back when. King Kamehameha I, some important dude in Hawaiian history, was presented with it. I read that the eight stripes represents the eight main islands of the Hawaiian state. Cool detail.
My Digging Deep:
- First: Googled the flag to make sure about the history.
- Second: Read some history web pages, and wiki pages.
- Third: Searched “what does the Hawaiian flag mean?”
So yeah, that’s pretty much it. I learned that Max Holloway carries the Hawaiian flag, representing his home state and heritage. It’s a pretty cool-looking flag, and now I know a little bit more about it. Makes watching him fight even more interesting, knowing he’s repping Hawaii so proudly.
