Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with running backs in my fantasy football league, and let me tell you, it’s been a headache. Today, I’m diving into the whole Gibbs or Pacheco dilemma. I started off thinking this would be a piece of cake, you know, just plug and play.

First, I started by looking at Jahmyr Gibbs. The guy’s a rookie, drafted by the Lions. I thought, “Alright, Detroit’s backfield is wide open, this kid’s gonna be a stud.” I watched some of his college highlights, and man, the dude can move. He’s quick, shifty, and seems to have a good nose for the end zone.
- I put him in my lineup for the first game, feeling pretty good.
- He gets a decent number of touches, shows some flashes, but nothing crazy.
- I’m thinking, “Okay, it’s just the first game, he’ll warm up.”
Then, I got cold feet. Started second-guessing myself. I mean, the Lions also have David Montgomery, and while he’s not the flashiest, he’s a solid, reliable back. I started digging into some stats, reading some articles, and everyone’s talking about how Montgomery is gonna be the “workhorse” and Gibbs will be more of a “change-of-pace” back.
So, what do I do? I pull Gibbs out. Put him on my bench. I’m not happy about it, but I’m thinking, “Better safe than sorry.”
Next up, Isiah Pacheco. This guy came out of nowhere last year for the Chiefs. I remember watching him, thinking, “Who is this guy?” He runs hard, breaks tackles, and seems to have that “it” factor.
- I snagged him off the waiver wire last year, and he helped me win a few games.
- This year, I’m thinking he’s gonna be the guy in Kansas City.
- I start him in the first couple of games, and he’s doing alright, not setting the world on fire, but solid.
But then, the doubts creep in again. The Chiefs, they love to throw the ball. And they’ve got Jerick McKinnon, who’s a great pass-catching back. I start seeing articles about how Pacheco might not be a “three-down back” and how his touches might be limited.

So, I’m back to square one. Gibbs or Pacheco? One’s a rookie with a ton of potential but might be stuck in a timeshare. The other’s a proven commodity but might not get enough volume.
I ended up going back and forth all week. I changed my lineup like ten times. Finally, I just flipped a coin. Seriously. Heads, Gibbs. Tails, Pacheco.
It landed on tails. I started Pacheco. And guess what? He had a decent game. Not amazing, but good enough. Gibbs, on the other hand, didn’t do much.
So, what did I learn from all this? Honestly, not much. Fantasy football is a crapshoot. You can do all the research in the world, but at the end of the day, it comes down to luck and a whole lot of guesswork. I’m still not sure who’s the better long-term option, but for now, I’m sticking with Pacheco. We’ll see what happens next week. Maybe I’ll flip another coin.
The Final Decision
It has been a headache to choose between them, but I will keep going with Pacheco in the next few weeks. Hope I can get a big win.
