Okay, so I was messing around with some crosswords the other day, and this “2016 or 2028” thing popped up. It got me thinking, how tough could it be to actually figure this out, you know, without just Googling it?

My Little Experiment Begins
First, I grabbed a pen and paper – old school, I know. I started by thinking about what big events happened in those years. I mean, Olympics, elections… the usual stuff.
- 2016: I remembered it was a US Presidential election year. Plus, the Rio Olympics.
- 2028: This one was trickier. I knew it would be another election year, and then it hit me – the Los Angeles Olympics!
Digging Deeper
So, having those key events helped a lot. I then tried to think of some specific clues that might show up in a crossword, relating to these events.
For 2016, I came up with things like:
- “Rio Games host” (Answer could be BRAZIL)
- “Trump’s opponent” (CLINTON, of course)
- Something about Zika virus, I vaguely remembered that being a thing then.
And for 2028, my brain churned out:
- “LA’s big event” OLYMPICS.
- I figure a question about who might be runnung, but was too hard.
- Maybe something about California, since that’s where LA is.
Putting it to the Test
Then I actually found an old crossword puzzle that was supposed have clues use it. It was from a local paper, so the clues were a little more, you know, normal people.

I spotted a clue that was something like “Summer Games location”. Bingo! That could be Rio OR Los Angeles. But then, I saw another clue, something about a “Female presidential candidate.” That nailed it. It had to be 2016, the crossword focused on.
It wasn’t rocket science, I guess. I just had remembered. I used the clues I figured out and got it. Pretty fun and not that hard, try it out yourself.
